Empowering Nigeria's Renewable Energy Future: Leading the Way with Sweet Sorghum Ethanol
Global Biofuels Ltd. (RC 679588), a subsidiary of NeGSt Global Integrated Co. Ltd., is implementing a project to convert the juice from the stalk of sweet sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench) to ethanol. The initiative is the product of research on sorghum cultivars by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) with HQ in India. Sweet sorghum is similar to grain sorghum with sugar-rich stalks.
The Company has been working with the International Crop Research Institute for the Semi Arid Tropics(ICRISAT) of India (www.icrisat.org), the Institute of Agricultural Research, ABU Samaru, Zaria, and Praj International Ltd (www.praj.net) also of India to propagate the use of sweet sorghum as the most promising feedstock for the commercial production of fuel ethanol.
